Open Rehearsal #2

March 28th, 2019 | Beeler Gallery, Columbus (OH)

Our second open rehearsal on March 28th, 2019, featured two walls. Playing with different iterations of these movable walls (writing on it, separating audience and performers, isolating the crowd, etc.) challenged the very idea of a border as well as the performers’ and audience’s physical and emotional relationship to it.

Open Rehearsal #1

December 11th, 2018 | Beeler Gallery, Columbus (OH)

As a non-verbal form of communication, dance challenges the idea of borders on different levels (political, geographical, historical and aesthetic). On Board(hers), an all-women dance performance based on the recorded voices of fifteen female immigrants’ testimonies, foregrounds a collection of gestures that embody unique experiences of migration. Representing different ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, socio-economic statuses and levels of education, the repetitive-structured piece create a 40-minute long choreography that hints at stories of women who are at the mercy of contemporary immigration policies, while underlining the fortitude of women’s work, humor, and solidarity. On Board(hers) allow participants and audiences to explore how global mobility is gendered.
